What is Blown and Spray Insulation, and why do I need it?

Recycled materials are reconstituted into small pieces that can be transferred easily through a hose to produce the blown insulation.  Traditionally, wool and rock were used as blown insulation in Toronto, Hamilton, Mississauga and surrounding areas.  In recent years, a more economical solution has been developed using sustainable materials such as newspaper that has been shredded.  Blown insulation has become more and more popular as it is not only effective and affordable but also a good use of recycled materials.

The traditional application of insulation was in the form of solid panels that is cut to fit the desired wall attic or floor cavity.  While this method does provide some attic insulation and wall insulation, it is very inefficient due to air leakage.  Air leakage is caused by the panels not fitting into each seam and crack in the walls.  Blown insulation is a far more effective tool for insulating your home and has been proven to make homes much more energy efficient.

The major advantage to blown insulation is that it can satisfy any home’s attic insulation, wall insulation or floor insulation needs.  This is because it is installed using a technique that ensures that every single crack is filled in.  Using specialist equipment and years of professional experience, we are able to ensure that your home is as energy efficient as possible.

Another alternative to blown insulation is to look into Spray foam insulation like many homeowners in the Toronto, Hamilton and Mississauga area.  Spray foam insulations used to be not too common in Toronto and the surrounding areas, however over the past few years it has become very popular indeed.  Spray foam is a huge upgrade from traditional insulation as it provides the best air sealing results available.  Upon application the spray foam will expand to fill the cavity that it is introduced to.  The advantage here is that with spray foam you can guarantee that no area was left unprotected.

Another bonus to using foam is that it is not only the best air sealing option but it is completely toxin free and hypoallergenic. The foam will not deteriorate over time in the same way as traditional insulation can.  This makes it ideal for attic insulation, wall insulation and floor insulation.  You can be confident that spray foam insulation will remove the worry about mold, insects, rodents and fungus.

Due to both methods being quicker and easier to install than any tradition insulation you will save on labour costs straight away.  Blown insulation and spray insulation are far more effective methods for insulating any building, and will save a great deal on energy costs over time.

We have seen our Toronto, Hamilton and Mississauga customers notice an almost immediate drop in their energy bills as a result of our expert application of blown and spray insulation.  If you are concerned about the environment then upgrading your insulation will contribute enormously to reducing your carbon footprint and you can rest assured that the insulation will have been professionally installed and will last for many, many years.

One concern people have is that the initial cost of spray or foam insulation can be higher than that of traditional insulation.  However, once you factor in the energy savings, environmental impact and longevity of use, using a more modern method of insulating your home is clearly the best option.  Getting in touch with us today is the first step to ensuring that you will have an energy efficient home that you can be proud of for a great many years to come.
